Ready to create real impact in your business or community?
Hi, I’m David.
I didn’t start as a consultant or business coach. I started as a tradesman, then moved into labour hire and disability employment services. My journey into the disability sector became deeply personal when my son was born deaf. That experience changed the direction of my life and career and led me to work with the Queensland Deaf Society, starting in 1996 (now Deaf Connect), where I learned Auslan and became immersed in the realities of disability support.
In 2015, I started my own NDIS provider business in Toowoomba as a sole trader. What began as a small, hands-on operation grew into a multi-location disability services organisation with nearly 100 staff across the Western Downs, Dalby and Jimboomba.
In 2025, I sold that business.
The journey, from sole trader to employer, from chaos to systems, from growth to exit, taught me more than any business course or coaching program ever could.
Why I Created David Wallis Consultancy
After selling my business, people kept asking me the same questions:
“How did you manage compliance and audits?”
“How did you grow your team without losing control?”
“How did you build systems that actually worked?”
“How did you make the business sellable?”
I realised there was a real gap.
Most disability service business owners are caring, capable people but they’re not trained in business, compliance, HR, audits or systems. They fall into the industry because they care deeply about people, not because they want to run a complex organisation.
I also realised how hard it was to find the right kind of support.
I worked with business coaches myself. Some were helpful. Some weren’t. Most didn’t understand the NDIS sector, compliance requirements, audits, HR realities or the day-to-day pressure of running a disability service.
What I needed back then was someone who had already done it.
That’s why I created this consultancy.
I’m Not a “Business Coach”
I don’t sell generic frameworks.
I don’t speak in jargon.
I work in simple, practical blocks of time.
You pay only for the support you need.
Think of me as a support person for the business owner.
Someone you can call when:
- Compliance feels overwhelming
- Audits are looming
- Your team is growing faster than your systems
- You don’t know how to structure things properly
- You want to build something that one day can be sold
I sit beside you, not above you.
What I Actually Help With
I help disability service business owners with things like:
- NDIS compliance and audit readiness
- HR systems, onboarding and staff documentation
- Operational systems and internal processes
- Employee handbooks and templates
- Rostering, reporting and record-keeping
- Setting up internal knowledge bases
- Growth structure and leadership support
- Exit planning and sale readiness
- Pre-sale due diligence preparation
These are the things I had to figure out the hard way.
Now I help you do it faster, cleaner and with less stress.
My Philosophy
I believe:
- Strong systems create freedom
- Compliance doesn’t have to be terrifying
- Growth should not destroy your life
- Staff need nurturing, structure and clarity
- You should build your business as if you might sell it one day, even if you never do
Most of all, I believe you shouldn’t have to do this alone.
Why This Work Matters to Me
This isn’t just business for me.
My connection to the disability sector is personal.
My experience running an NDIS business was real.
My motivation to help others comes from knowing how hard this journey really is.
I know what it’s like to be flat out, overwhelmed and unsure who to trust for honest advice.
That’s why I do this work now.
